Does anyone ever experience a strong change in their tone and playing just by listening to a certain player for a little while?

I find that usually in the morning I go on youtube and listen to music for about an hour before I go busking for the day and as soon as I start playing there are strong hints of what I"ve just been listening to. Which on one hand is cool and on another hand can be frustrating. Sometimes it's hard to get my fingers to chill out for playing dinner jazz if I've just been listening to Courtney Pine.

Any similar experiences?

Listening...most under-rated aspect of being a great player. The better the player, the more they've listened. And yes, immitated.

I usually drive to gigs with Dick Oatts' Standard Issue or Kenny Garrett's Triology on the CD player, in the hopes that any little bit of that will soak into my own playing!
