There seems to be some interest in the Miami Dukoff soprano mouthpieces. I recently purchase a soprano that comes with a Miami D-7 Metal Mouthpiece. I'm looking for some history and the differences between the Miami and current production. Is this the normal vintage HYPE or real?

I know Kenny G plays a Dukoff. I normally always to Mouthpiece Heaven for this info but it's still being rebuilt.

there is no real history -all dukoffs come from bobbys garage in kendall florida. (a suburb of maimi)

Some, if not all are made out of a different material.

The old ones are brass, the new ones are Silverite (see the discussion in the General Mouthpiece section for more info on this).

Thanks for the info - I have issues with Metal Mouthpieces so I'm going to list it on E-Bay - "Miami Dukoff" and hope for the best. I'm trying to recoup money from my lastest soprano purchase.

mojo -are you serious? the dukoff sop is so bright =that even i hesitate to use it in my rock band. the xl is the same as the smooth bore right? (only derlin) its not as bright as the dukoff to me. never tried a metal smooth bore. the xl is perfect on sop for me for rock . i would have bought that white one you had for so long but 8 is too big for me.

I played a few Dukoffs, but only after I've reworked them. I usually flatten the baffle since I do not like the arch in it. Plays bigger and a tad darker for me. So my comparison is probably not fair.

This is incorrect. There were early versions of the Super Power Chamber design for SATB in nickel plated brass. I've owned some of each and still have two for tenor I'm planning to part with.

I never saw one like that. It would have the effect of taking a little bit of brightness away. There have been a bunch of odd Dukoff variations over the years.

You can try filling it in with some temporary putty to get a feel for how significant a change it is.

There is an X model alto on ebay now with a photo of the baffle area, showing a cutout that is not a circle, but also a cutout of the baffle.

yes bobby dukoffs facing work is first rate isnt it-lol. i once called him and complained about the poor quality control and he more or less told me to take it or leave it
