I had a similar experience with the JJ DV. I tried the 8* and 7*. With the 7* I could play a harder reed, which made the sound more centered and less bright, but still preserved the edge and projection.

I tried a 8 (110) and had no problems to play in all the register but I did not feel totally confortable with the tip opening (I am used to a 105) and with the sound a little too bright for me. Do you think if I order a 7 (100) or a 7* (105) I could get a little more centered tone with a harder reed?
