I hope this is not a stupid question...

I plan to get a DV for tenor...but something is bothering me. I know that WWBW as well as Jody (himself) offer money-back returns....So my Question: Where should I buy my mpc from, if I do NOT want to end up with a higher possibility of getting a returned one?

Get what I mean? I just don't want to pay $495 for a mpc which was sold-retuned-sterilised-resold.

Sorry to say but I think this is quite unfair.

It's the rule of the game when buying from a store which accepts returns that you have some chances to get an item that was "sold-retuned-sterilised-resold" to use your words. And I am noting how you dont' say "scratched, blamished, etc..". So the only fault would be to have travelled a bit more than others and to have been in some other mouth.

But, at the same time, you probably like, as a buyer, the possibility to take advantage of a return policy.

Now, to answer your question, both your options accept returns, so you might face that possibility with both. WWBW offers a longer return policy, so it might be preferable from this point of view.

If you get one from Jody you know it will be pristine.
If you get one from wwbw it might show some wear.
If you get one from Jody, well, you get only one.
If you get one from wwbw you can get up to four and take your pick of the litter.

For me, personally, I don't want it to look trashed but a few rubs or marring are secondary to how it plays - that would be my priority.

I've purchased all my JJ pieces from him directly, and each time he spoke with me to insure that I got what I was looking for, and a personally selected example. You won't get that from a secondary vendor.

Great pieces by the way.

Jody has always had excellent customer service and I would order from him directly if given the choice. WWBW will put obvious and visibly defective mouthpieces back in circulation; as I know first hand from two Bergs I returned (at no cost to me due to the defects) and saw back on closeout shortly thereafter (despite my pleas to take them off the market).

As another data point to consider, I have purchased two JJ HR pieces from WWBW at a slight discount from Jody's prices. I realize that these are not in the same price range but they arrived in superb condition and are great players. I have also returned one badly produced Meyer to WWBW. If you don't get a better deal from WWBW, then buy from Jody.

I've ordered my JJ pieces directly from "the man". Even changed one out to a larger tip w/o any problem. I'd deal directly with Jody.

I'm wondering if the pieces he lets go to the big retailers may be slightly less desireable because he knows they aren't coming back to him? Maybe he keeps the prime stock for his direct customers. Just a random thought and probably no truth to it at all. I hope.......

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but I know that for the JJ DV and JJ DV NY, Jody is willing to send you two them (can have different sizes) and only charge you for one, considering that you will probably return at least one within the two week trial period.

Just a few weeks ago I ordered a JJ DV NY and had Jody send me a 7* and 8, both were in perfect condition. I now use the 7* as my main piece…returned the 8 with no problems.
