Hi all,

I recently came across this recording:

It's a recorded jam session with Lockjaw, Buddy Tate, Coleman Hawkins, Arnett Cobb. It's a really cool album- but I am not familiar enough with these players to recognize their sounds, or to know which ones are playing when.

Anybody have any idea of the order of the solos? Its a blues, and recorded in stereo. The four saxes are mixed L to R, and take solos in that order. Perhaps someone here could help me out?

I think they solo in the same order as the photo:

Lockjaw #1
Buddy Tate #2
Hawkins #3
Cobb #4

I know Lockjaw and Hawkins are definitely 1st and 3rd in solo order. I'm not so familiar with Buddy Tate and Arnett Cobb so might be mistaken.

mrpeebee will certainly know.

Great album that I have on vinyl but haven't listened to it in years.

Liam's right about the order. Lockjaw first, Tate from about 1:05" then Hawk from 1:54" and Arnett blows in at 2:44".

I used to hear Buddy Tate in the 80s when he visited London, often with Al Grey. Had a nice chat with him at the Pizza Express in Dean Street between sets.
