I was hoping somebody could give me the scoop on King Tenors model 662. There is absolutely nothing on the internet about them. I have the chance to pick up a "great condition" one on ebay, nut I don't know zip about the model. I could also pick up a new D.C. Pro series 2. Some help real soon would be rgeatly appreciated.

I was really looking for a (more) proffessional opinion. Basically I've only found unanswered questions about the 662 tenor, and nothing about it's actual value or sound. but thanks for the sarcasm.

I wasn't being Sarcastic. Seriously, many times people have asked a question that could have been answered by the Search button. I am guilty of this.

I have never played one, but the sound is relative whether you like it or not. The value is what YOU value it out.

Hey GumboV

I guess you're looking at this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/KING-TENOR-SAX-...ryZ64456QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Looks like it's in decent shape from the photos and the store has a reasonable ebay track record (not that that means anything). Free shipping sounds nice, so does a warranty, but you'll probably only get that if you pay more for it than the market price--which for these horns is rock bottom. If nobody bids on this horn you'll have a pretty good sense of what the sax playing folks who are shopping think about it.

If you live in Jersey you could go and try it.

Anybody think this is worth 300+?

Look for a King 615 instead

Look for a King 615 or King Cleveland 615 Tenor for your best value and a really well built saxophone.

A while back one of our members... I think it was Keith had one and it sounded awesome. I have purchaed a few for students and have never been sorry. Most of the time they go between 200 to 400 depending on the condition.

Good luck

Thanks for all the help so far. I've been playing clarinet and guitar for about 8 years. After a certain guitar buying fiasco a cuople of years ago, I'm very warry of cheaply made instruments (I know have Rickenbacker, and it rocks). Even though this a king only forum, I was wondering what anybody thought of D.C. Pro series II or Saturns. I understand it's mosotly about the player, but I really don't need another crap instrument. Thoughts?

CRAP. At least compared to an old 615.

Banish the thought and run from those two options.

Don't buy this student model King with the expectations that it will be comparable to the H.N. White era King Zephyr or Super 20, but always sample a reasonable horn candidate personally when possible, just the same. To paraphrase Fat's Waller, "One never knows, do one?".

GumboV -

Listen to Mike and others here. From me, I would encourage you to think about getting a King Super 20 instead (not because I am selling mine), but because it is a great horn. Or get a Zephyr.

But the King 20 and Zephyr will cost more than the older King horns, for sure (for good reasons, that is).

However those may get expensive. Their was a Zypher up for sale in the marketplace. For alittle bit more than that other king. If you go with the king that you are asking about, I would expect it to need an overhaul. And in that case you might as well got a Zypher.
