Fingers crossed for this elder statesman. I got a really nice letter from Lee once after sending him my book.

BTW, Birth of the Cool was 1949, not '57. Imagine that. Six decades plus.

I just saw him play two sets during the run at the BlueNote in NYC the weekend before last. He was in fine form. He will most completely be in my thoughts.

I had tickets to the Melbourne show that was cancelled. Found out about an hour before the concert was due to start. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Damn! I hope Lee can recover. He's one of the few original stylists in jazz. One of my all-time favorites.

This recording of Konitz with Stan Kenton from '54 is incredible. Nonstop melodic creativity.

I had a chance to talk to Bill Frisell about Lee's condition. He says that Joey Baron has spoken to Lee who is recovering well and is in good spirits. He has family and friends with him for support. The biggest problem now is that his doctors don't want him to fly for another five weeks!
