Hi All

I took the plunge and bought a WX5 and a vl70-m from ebay after reading on here.

Whilst I am waiting for the vl70 to arrive from the States I have plugged the wx5 into my old Roland SD-35.

It rocks, brilliant fun and instant gratification. I was dreading using the octave keys but they are easy to learn and I suppose it just goes to show how easy it is to be influenced by what you read!

Anyhow thanks yet again fellow SOTW posters for sharing your experiences etc, it certainly helped me make the decision to purchase the wx5.

WX-11 and the VL70M

Hi, I've been playing the Yamaha WX-11 through its sound module the WT-11 since 1991 and know the VL70M is compatible - but are there any other sound modules that will take that special plug?
My understanding is that the 16-bit breath control data is lost if you use a MIDI interface.
The foot pedal sounds like a great addition. I am thinking about getting the VL module but am happy with my keywork on the WX-11.
Can you recommend any other sound modules?

Conrgrats. You might want to check out the Turbo Chip from patchmanmusic.com for your VL70m. And, the Yamaha hard shell case is a must if you ever want to gig with the WX5. It's only plastic.
+1 for the Turbo chip. I'm not familiar with the Yamaha case, but you do need something better than a soft case to protect it.

I live in Aberdeen, Scotland and if you have not bought a case yet, I am having one made for my locally and it is crushproof! You can stand on it without damaging your instrument and it will cost you the same as getting one from the State after you get that dreaded Customs and Excise bill 2 week after playing with your new toy!

As someone suggested in another thread, I got the ProTec straight soprano case. It seems to work well, although it's not as tight a fit as the custom YCWX5. But there's an optional accessory for the ProTec case that's really sweet. (Uh, that would be a straight soprano of course.)

Now, where was TJ's tell Santa thread?

Hey Alpina. How are you getting on with your WX5? I now have mine set up on my Mac and using Garageband with Garritan Big Band and Jazz samples. I am still trying to get the hang of the soft keys but making headway regardless.

Happy new year to you mate.

Alpina,

Are there any problems with the power supply with imported vl70s from the States ? Presumably, it's either 110V or uses a 110V to 12V Adaptor ? Can you get suitable Adaptors for UK mains supply ?

Thanks,
Andy

I don't use the VL70. Maybe I should as I am not impressed with the the WX5/Garageband combination. It doesn't sound close enough to the acoustic and I really would like that.

Anyway, I got my soprano today and I am all excited.

An update, the vl70m now has the turbochip installed .. and I also now have a Roland xv-5050 which I use for layering. I can honestly say the wx-5 has moved me along musically in a way I only dreamed possible.

I can practise an idea quietly with headphones, loop it on my rc-2 loop pedal, change patches with the fcb1010 and best of all just play music at any time of the night.
