YES!!!! Wishing a most happy birthday to one of the greatest of them all!!!

Newk was such a MAJOR innovator in so many ways... melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, articulation, expressiveness. The whole package. Unmatched creativity. Especially dig his often unique tune selections. Whatever music he played was marked with his indellible stamp. Pure genius, imho.

My first Rollins recording was the twofer Saxophone Collossus and More with the green cover. I've listened to that so many times, in addition to Live at the Village Vanguard, Quartets with Jim Hall, with Max Roach/Clifford Brown, Riverside stuff etc. etc.

Amazing player still! How old now? I saw him in Victoria a few yrs. ago. After a full concert, he ended by coming back on stage alone and blowing incredible for several minutes. I think he was 80. Just fantastic!! Happy Birthday, Sonny Rollins!
