Hi guys

Me gonna be in the City again this month. Can somebody give me an update on the gig / performance / show scene? Would also be interested in the sax shops scene.

Last time I was there was in 2009.

Thanks in advance....

Just wanna add that I'm asking these questions as I was there TWICE in 2008 and 2009, and there were already changes within that span of 6 mths....so I guess 2 years would bring more changes...

Thanks guys....

also, when did International Woodwinds move (back?) to 46th Street (near Roberto's)? Was that around 2009? I've never been to the Rayburns near Lincoln Center...also, my assistant is buying a sax from Perry Ritter and I think he moved his shop in the past few years. Also, Matt Stohrer left town since 2009.

yes, visit Phil out in the far away suburbs and you could make a $1000 if you can tell the difference between a Barone Sax and a Mark VI (of course, if you can't, you owe Phil $1,000.)

I was at International Woodwinds, Rbertos, Rayburn @Lincoln Ctr while I visited in 2009. Also went up to say 'hello' to Matt....b4 he moved to NC.

Just attended Chris Potter's gig at the Village Vanguard.
Totally smokin'. 2 bassists at one time. He calls it his "bass section".
What a sound!

Adam Niewood I think is just across the river in Jersey. http://www.niewood.com/index.htm
What's up bro? Yeah man, your memory is good... when we were both at Berklee, I was indeed from NJ. And as the saying goes, "you can take the boy out of NJ, but you can't take the NJ out of the boy."

It's funny how information quickly circulates these days. I got an email with a link to this thread... "Bro, You moved to NJ????"

Just wanted to nip a rumor in the bud...

I've lived in Manhattan for 11 years... and have no plans of moving anytime soon.

But thank you for the juice ! Always welcome and appreciated.

To the Original Poster... Try to stop in Smalls: www.smallsjazzclub.com

There is a new place I've been hearing about a LOT, but haven't been to yet. called "the moldy fig" http://www.moldyfigjazzclub.com/ The folks I've heard talking it up - I trust their judgement. The place has gotta be cool.

and I also think you'd like Fat Cat http://www.fatcatmusic.org/

and you should check out a show at 55 Bar - http://www.55bar.com/
