I moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia in 2007. Little did I know until last year that our small, private liberal arts college West Virginia Wesleyan has a KILLER jazz program! I've been blown away by the level of musicianship of the kids coming out of this program. Dr. James Moore is the jazz lead and a great trumpet player (Bob Mintzer, etc.), and one of the instructors is a monster reed man out of Pittsburgh, PA named Curtis Johnson who also teaches at WVU in Morgantown (http://www.landaumurphyjr.com/2014/01/22/band-member-of-the-month-curtis-johnson/). So, if you, like me, associate the Mountain State with good bluegrass- think again. Perhaps you have a young student or child interested in pursuing top shelf jazz education and a teaching degree, in a beautiful bucolic place. https://www.wvwc.edu/academics/schools/fine-arts-humanities/music
