With regards Hammerschmidt's Klingson OR Klingsor saxophones - I noted while reading on Helen's fabulous pages the intonation issues these saxophones can display. I wanted to ask here if anybody has experience with these horns either positive or negative. I am decidedly fond of old European German saxes but obviously not fond of anything with issues. If you have some feedback on either tenor or alto I would appreciate it greatly

regards as always

Hammerschmidtt Klingsor ( Klingsons are the clarinets and flutes)

Read about this here (please follow the link, it costs always some effort for me to find threads for others and I would appreciate when in further comments people show they have read what I am pointing out, a direct answer to your question )

LOTS of experience in that thread. You will see that there are more people with different opinions about this.

I have just undertaken 3 searches with Hammerschmidt as the criteria and while I found some references - this search did not unearth the post you graciously listed above. Thanksagain Milandro

I have refurbished around a dozen Hammerschmidts, various names engraved on bell but all indisputably Hammerschmidt.

I cannot recall any which possessed the intonation woes which Helen notes.

I have no doubt that she speaks the truth, it was probably more likely I just never have serviced one from the 'problematic period'.

They are pretty good horns. Big sound. Ergos are fine, key action feels pretty good, blowing response tends to be pretty good. Quality of build is quite robust. Very interesting detailing. Basically not bad horns. Completely respectable and quite unique.

But if I were to suggest an old German mfr. horn to someone, I'd likely say JK or Kohlert first....

I have superhuman qualities :) we've established that. NOT!

Once again, if you go here

https://www.saxontheweb.net

the box in the top middel says Google custom search. I type " Hammerschmidt intonation"

It comes with 69 hits the first of which is the one I returned to you

This is the way I have always searched and keep doing ever since I have been a member here. Good luck!

There are some comments of interest in other threads too !

thanks - I'll keep this in mind. I have a 65 Kohlert Regent in fabulous condition (see avatar) love the G.H.huller's and have a soft spot for old Weltklang's also. I'd have thought the Hammerschmidts would have had a pretty enviable build quality with lots of power.
