Got my Hammered Dulcimer from Music Magic in Somerset today. I just opened the wooden crate it came in . What a beautiful instrument. Hand made by owner Tim Manning. The table top pro costs just under £400 and it's a great piece of music making kit for a relatively very small amount of money....The price of one decent
hand made tenor piece! Wonderful haunting sound.
It will be a great addition to the studio... just have to learn to play it a bit.

I've love the hammered dulcimer since I heard Malcolm Dalglish and Grey Larson in the early 80's. A fine instrument.

Perhaps you'd like a bowed psaltery, too.

Ever since I heard Russel Cook (builder of Masterworks HDs) play one in his shop in Estes Park in 1984, I've owned and dabbled with HDs. Although, it's the one instrument I never play out with--tuning is too much of a hassle. Also, I'm a purist with HD: I think they only sound good playing simple music--I myself only play ITM repertoire like O'Carolan harp tunes and fiddle tunes. They muddy an ensemble; the wonderful thing about HD is its big resonance--beautiful when played solo.
