howzit guys & gals, 1st post, great sax forum!! need some help...anyone does grover washington covers? searching for an alto mpc which closely resembles his distinctive/sultry/smooth like butter sound. someone told me he played a ny meyer. would be nice to have, but as of now funds do not permit. wondering how some of the ny meyer copies are...modern meyer,ny gwind,ny barone etc stack up? my current beechler s5s hr/fibracell setup is just too bright for his pieces. also dont have the outlet's locally to go out & test mpc's...moreless i would have to take youre feedbacks to narrow my decision. thx, much appreciated!!

Hi Edgetone, welcome to SOTW. I don't think there is a way to replicate somebody else's sound because sound production comes as much from the particular shape of your mouth and the sound idea you have in your mind than from a specific mouthpiece (whatever that means...many are individual pieces which even factories or makers aren't able to produce exactly the same) and a specific horn (if you belive that all the horns which bear the same name are created equal....).

However this thing of GWJ has been discussed before (yes, every novice gets told at least once to use the search function before of posting...:) ;) )
