Untill you inevitably purchase the album there is a link. It is also on spotify for those of you who have it.
Track in question is free for all.
In particular the monstrosity, magnificent, terrifying, mind boggling, master of tenor that kicks in about 10.30.
I find the inherent technique in this solo to be above almost anything i have ever heard played on the saxophone, it really is that good!

Well, dammit, *I* thought it was soulful and beautiful and killin'! And I think I'm more than just a "technique-afficienado"!

Thanks jgm!

What's wrong with wonderful technique, allied to a seemingly endless inventive capacity? Potter is outstanding because he uses his technique to make music: just look at the range of bands and types of music he plays. Thanks for pointing this one out.

I know, right? Why do some have such issues with great technique? It's disheartening to hear technique such as this, as well as countless other recordings, being held in such low regard.
Naturally, it's the free choice of the listener....................But come on man!

Potter kicks *** and I've always respected his ability to play the saxophone.

I think Potter has more to offer on many other tracks/ albums than on this particular track, but to each his own. A master indeed though.

What really strikes me is the tone he gets on his STM. He sounds even better live unmiked by the way.

Unfortunately, good technique is not sufficient to make for enjoyable listening to anyone other than technique-afficienados.

It does nothing for me.
I weep for you, for you will never be able to enjoy any music that takes a prodigious technique.

You will always think that mediocre players have some kind of mysterious connection to 'soul'. Enjoy your punk rock.

Free choice of player too, Potter could play any style but surprise surprise he plays what few other sax players on the planet could dream of. The virtuosity in his playing beggars belief!!!

Actually the solo that blows my mind was the one on "What Goes Around". Check that one out.
Sick solo..... utterly magnificent

These guys are what music making is all about. Cohesion, collaboration, BALLS!!!
I like you, you have balls...... i like balls

Mannnn. Dave, Robin Eubanks, Chris Potter, Antonio Hart, Gary Smulyan, Mark Gross. That's where it's at!

-Bubba-
Imagine playing with these cats, must have done something right to end up on the bandstand with those guys

Thank you Hakukani, I like the expressive players just as much as the next man. Im a getz man, not to mention prez, lovano, chet baker, hubbard, hargrove, bill evans, dexter, fathead, ayers whatever man too many to list.

Whats cool about potter is he encompasses an enormous range of music and takes it further. Big band, funk or hardcore jazz playing..... i think its this which makes him one of the most outstanding tenor men on the planet!
