A good Link seems to work on all my tenors (Selmer VI, Conn 30M, and Martin Committee). A good Selmer Soloist or Meyer (or similar style) seems to work on both my 26M and Martin Committee altos.

I've always been preferential to Link for tenor and Soloist or Meyer for alto though.

A horn and mouthpiece have to match well, and so does the player. Everything has to work together. That being said, some mouthpieces are always going to be better than others due to workmanship, etc.

I have discovered the same this past year-I have no doubt it's combinations. I need to use the right combination for EACH horn to get the most out it. This should be a poll question.

It's more the latter (combinations) for me. Some horns are definitely "mouthpiece fussy" with me as the player!

Personal favourites- My Mauriat 66R tenor and a Berg Larsen Grained Ebonite 105/2 - lovely, round and rich, but with the potential to get a lot of 'grit' if needed. Selmer reference 36 Tenor and a Metal Otto Link.... A Yani Alto 902 and a Dukoff D7.....
