I certainly wouldn't consider that "not-jazz" either.

Just because you're playing something "based" on what a "classical" composer wrote does not make it "classical." I also would definitely not consider that alto sound even a good representation of a "classical" sound. Nice Jazz sound though, therefore..... jazz section.

exactly! It does not sound classical! Try to find a real classic performance of the piece and then hear the difference.

I think you seem like a person who is in love with saxophone - which I completely respect!!

I also think you will be even more enamored with the capabilities of the instrument when you check out some players with amazing control.

Glad to have you in our clan, fellow saxophile!

I guess this isn't classical either..

To me, this guy's playing is just weird. Fantastic technique, amazing tonging etc etc but absolutely no idea of musical context. In fact what he does with the pieces makes me feel rather ill. Am I wrong? Am I old fashioned? This is like asking .....oh I don't know, say Rhianna to sing the famous Aria from La Wally in her style; just wrong. But conversely asking Kiri Te Kanawa to sing something by Beyonce would also be just wrong.

I listen to what sounds good to me. Everyone thinks John Coltrane is one of the greatest. I tried listening to the man but just can't stand the sound he produces. His sound physically irritates and annoys me.

I'll take this over Coltrane any day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBMa0PaeKn8&feature=youtu.be
