Serial 19657

From the research done , this sax should be from the beginning of the 70ties.

Model is called Jade Rollers ?

In perfect playing condition around 500 $ ?

Is this a professional level sax ?

I don't think the model was ever called "Jade rollers" really. It may have a "Professional" engraving below the serial number.

I have a Grassi bari of the same series; that is a good player, so I would not be surprised if this one was also a good one.

this model was not officially called Jade Rollers but the market calls it like that

the Grassi “ professional model" had some differences in the mechanics. This was not the “ professional line “ of the company but it has been known to be used by some players professionally.

The Profession, Professional 2000, Wonderful Model and Prestige were the top of the range.$500 is a good price.

I had one of these tenors with the jade rollers. I can agree that the pinky cluster was a little slow but that horn sounded great. I really regret trading it in. I had to thin the herd a few years back.

Was my to go tenor horn (not the jade one, the standard professional), I liked it more then my current SAII. Intonation was an issue, in particular in palm keys, but sounded big and spread, really different than current production tenors.
Now the SA is my main and only tenor, and the Grassi found a new home.
For 500€ is a bargain

Not a bad price at all, I played a Jade model alto regularly for several years, it started as a back up to my Zephyr but as that needed work the Grassi was the main horn for a while. Neville Sax is right about the LH pinky keys taking a little work but it has a great sound and it's pretty easy to play.

No longer have mine, I gave it up as part of the trade for my bass saxophone.

That’s an ‘Export’: the early ones had the jade rollers, hence the nickname. A bit like the Selmer ‘ cigar cutter’, not a model name given by the makers, but a nickname given by players.

Is it a pro model? I don’t think it was created as a professional instrument, however it doesn’t mean it cannot be used professionally: Eli Degibri has been playing one professionally for many years and he swears by it.

If adjusted by a good tech, the tenors and altos are superb vintage saxophones.
I always thought mine played like it was half Buescher Top Hat & Cane, and half very late SBA. It has great qualities of both of those and is sonically sweet.
I'd love to find out who the tech is that does Eli's setup on his Jade Rollers.

I quite sure he may be able to oblige

I think that is what social media is all about if people wouldn’t want that kind of attention they wouldn’t be on it...
His responses and banter have always been so sincere and friendly. Honestly, I am blessed to have access to several really fantastic Woodwind technicians here in Colorado and think it would be a deal-breaker for me to ship any of my tenors internationally though. I'll bet you he has a great Israeli or Central European tech. Lucky him!
To my ears, his setup walks a Razor's Edge between a powerful big bell, and a sublime and sweet focused core. I've seen Eli live three times here in Denver, once barely mic'd, and I think he may have one of the best technicians around.
