She's from my neck of the woods...rich Massachusetts towns have all the money they need for good music programs. Let me check, I might be able to find out where exactly...can't find it, probably from Acton, Lexington, Wellesley, Newton, Weston, Bedford...eh. I'm from dumpy ol' Lowell. I have a solo of hers though on a disc, and she's good.

It takes major testicularity to get up with Phil Woods and trade fours to boot.

Great sound and phrasing for being 14. This is the kind of musicianship that is lacking in the "educational" aspect of jazz. Best of luck to her; she will go far with her sense of musical maturity.

Man, Phil still ripped her apart though.

She is pretty much a phil woods clone, a little too much so.

What's wrong with being a Phil Woods clone and why does she have to grow out of that? :?

This is the kind of stuff that really inspires me to play, and to practice, and to love and enjoy music. You guys all know what I'm talking about, there's nothing like it in the world.

Hats off (or in this case, on!) to this kid. I can't wait to see her in a few years and see where her music has gone.

I disagree...she doesn't sound like a phil woods clone to me!

Who she sounds like is not important.

I think she is inspiring.

He's Phil frickin' Woods. If he can't 'smoke' her, he should probably give up, given his long experience. <rolls eyes>
At least he ain't playing sharp (pitch wise). He was givin' her a LESSON. You aholes should be so lucky.

I see the same behavior with my adult dog and our new puppy.

Phil had better licks but I kinda liked Grace Kelly's tone better!

WoW and I mean WoW! Clone or not, she is 14, for crying out loud! She already smokes most people I know....give her a little time to make more experience, listen and make music with other mucians and she will be hard if not impossible to catch. I am seriously impressed!

What a lovely clip. I particularly liked the bit where she put the hat sideways. And I completely disagree with the idea that Phil "smoked" her (not that he tried of course!) Given the circumstances, given her age, given that she's playing with Phil Woods (imagine that: hands trembling much, guys? ) it was her who "smoked" Phil. And he knew it. And he admitted it in a very kind and gentlemanly way. Thanks for the clip. Nice start to the day.

Absolutely beautiful performance by both.:salute: But I betcha when he was 14 Phil couldn't have gone toe-to-toe with himself now like this girl did. I understand she's a promising jazz singer and songwriter too.
I've never heard of her before but now I'll be looking out for her.

Grace showed up on the forum earlier. She's won downbeat awards for the last two years for her writing - maybe playing too, can't remember.
