I've been playing alto for a long time and am wanting to start getting into tenor. What's a good mouthpiece to start with? My teacher says start with a metal link. I also thought about trying a Dukoff but my local shop didn't seem to want to give me one stating "they are really bright". My favorite tenor players are probably Michael Brecker and Bob Berg, among others, so that is kind of the sound I am shooting for eventually.

I would say start on the Link and buy a Dukoff in a year or two if you decide you want one then.

My teacher plays a Guardala Studio and I love the way he sounds. I suppose that might be an option too.

I see from the last line of your sig that you know the answer already.

It doesn't matter where you start (aren't WWBW selling Guardala stuff cheap at the moment?): by starting on tenor you have just doubled your likely GAS.

Haha, you're probably right.
