Looking for tips and advice on the best methods for cleaning and polishing a gold plated saxophone?
In the past I have just used hot soapy water but wondering what other options are out there.
Should those blue polishing cloths used for silver plate be avoided?

I just completed a Clean, Oil, and Adjust (COA) on a customer's gold plated Conn New Wonder Tenor sax. The keys polished up very nicely using a jeweler's gold polish cloth. With the sax disassembled I tried spraying a small area with Haggerty's silver polish and then hand ragging with strips of flannel cloth. It worked beautifully on the gold plate just as it does on silver.

Yup, I just finished and sold a beautiful Holton Revelation in gold plate; I used Haggerty Silver polish too (blue bottle) with a fine microfibre cloth...works great.
I also used a Blitz cloth, the one for plated.bare brass instruments with the two fabrics sewn together, for touch up and general gleaning in-between. These products work great and do not in any way damage the plating.
