"GIG DUST" IS EYESHADOW!!!!!
That's right folks. it's been analysed and that's what it is. Rub some eyeshadow over a cloth or thin piece of paper and pull it through a pad like normal and voila...no more sticking. (A BIOCHEMIST ANALYSED IT FOR A TOP SAX DEALERSHIP HERE IN THE UK).

How about some proof this statement is true? Is there a link to the chemist's chemical analysis or a public statement in his name? Also what is the name of the "top sax dealership"? Thank you.

As a chemist that does quite a bit of "what is this stuff" work, I can tell you that lots of materials contain the same components in a general sense but can be quite different in formulation and properties. Even something as "simple" as particle size can alter a property significantly. So this isn't a rebuttal of the analysis . . . it's just a warning to closely examine what was done and what wasn't done in performing it.

the sax dealer who got the chemist to analyze it is Stuart at Woodwind exchange. He got the guy to do it because when the guy who invented "gig dust" died, he didn't leave the formula. As regards the other question....i always wear gig dust as eye shadow because it stops my lids sticking!!

I wear eye shadow on 'gigs' all the time. I wouldn't use it on the pads of my sax. We might clash. Unless of course I went with neutral shades.

I think you'd have to be nuts putting powder on your pads and into your horn. Just swipe a dollar bill between the pad and tonehole prior to a gig and/or clean the pad/tonehole with lighters fluid. Don't waste your money on this crap.
Just imagine what's already on that dollar bill that you are swiping against your pads! A little eye shadow can't do that much more harm.

This is why I always use a hundred dollar bill for this purpose. Cocaine dust beats that pansy eye shadow crap hands down.

Even more of a waste then (though you're still putting powder on your pads, albeit indirectly).

Save the money and use it instead.
