Gebruder Mönnig Bass Flute

Well, I am a sucker for these things ;) :) and I always wanted to have a go at playing some Bass and Alt flute.

I got myself a Bass flute by the Gebruder Mönnig factory (now part of the Adler group) and I think this whopper was made in the '70. Very nice looking, with a sort of reform lip-plate , I think it is silver plate on German Silver, in its original case .

I have played it a bit , along with his small soprano version. I like it very much and I will keep on playing it as long as I have it but I know that I won't be holding on to it forever. I have my hands more than full already with saxophones.

So, I imagine what I really want to know is how much would it be worth if I would decide to sell it?

Do you think that the buyer would appreciate me selling Bass flute and soprano as a set? They are very much of the same era.

Both horns have good pads and can be played out of the box. The Bass flute has no trills. The soprano has a C foot. Both have this interesting foot rollers reminiscent of a saxophone.

Hey this is a picture of the Mönnig brothers (scary !) :)

Yeah, they look pretty serious in the photo.

As far as the set of flutes goes, I would personally want to have the choice to buy only one if I wanted, but I can see how buying the two as a set would be attractive to some people.
One question, when you say soprano flute, are you talking about an Eb flute between the concert flute and piccolo?

I don't know how much the bass iworth today but WWBW sold them new about 15 years ago for around $1,450 and I would guess it would be worth about the same.

I admit not having a huge amount of flute (bass or otherwise) experience but it is great fun to play

well, I think I am ready to soon put this into the " for sale section" I am still thinking of the price to ask, bass flutes are very rare in the Netherlands.

Milandro have you had the bass checked for the pads seating? The bass has to be sealing perfectly to respond and when they are it's a pleasure to play. It's ultra crucial on the bass with the nature of the air column. The Monnigs are excellent when set up.
Holland is the home of the bassflute...Eva Kingma the world's specialist in low flutes.

Re: Gebruder Mönnig Bass Flute

a friend at a shop had a quick look and said that the pads were in excellent state and that maybe he would want to take a look at the timing of a couple of pads but I found that it played rather well, in as far as I can tell not being a flutist

Re: Gebruder Mönnig Bass Flute

I've just emailed the Company they told me that these flutes were sold for 6950 DM when they sold the last of them (3200 €) and that a price of 1600€ would be appropriate for a flute in these conditions
