Hey folks,

My name's Gabe, I'm new here. I'm looking for an opportunity to get some horn charts for my funk band (E-Funk). I'm broke (obviously a musician then... haha) but love to play. I'm the MD for my band and am trying to get in to the entertainment scene in a HUGE way. Does anyone have any arrangements they can hook me up with?

I'm looking for things like:

Tower of Power
Maceo
Chaka Kahn
D'angelo
Headhunters
Sam Cook
Michael Jackson (i.e. off the wall)
BeeJees
Sly
RH Factor
P-Funk
Earth Wind and Fire
etc.

Anybody?
thanks,

Gabe

ps check out my originals at myspace.com/e-funk

You might want to just sit down with a piece, listen to it a bunch of times, and write out parts and chord changes using trial and error. It's not only free, but will help develop your listening and improv skills and sense of melody and harmony.

Most funky stuff is built around the I, bIII, IV, V and bVII chords, and is more about rhythm, and snappy syncopated riffs than elaborate changes.

By the way, add Delbert McClinton to your list. He's kind of a funky, bluesy, country guy that gets good and greasy sometimes and can expand the genre.

Best wishes,
