For those in and around Chicago, there's a fundraiser for Joe Segal at the Studebaker Theater this Monday, November 18: https://www.jazzshowcase.com/upcoming_shows/benefit-fundraiser-for-joe-segal/

It's a great lineup for $30 including Joey DeFrancesco and many others, and you will be supporting Joe Segal, who has been presenting jazz through thick and thin in Chicago since almost forever. I go back with the Jazz Showcase to the Rush Street days in the mid-1970s when Dexter Gordon was being "re-discovered" and had a lineup around the block to see him. The club has made stops at the Blackstone Hotel, Grand Avenue, and the current location at Dearborn Station. It would be interesting to see a list of all the greats Joe has presented: Bird, Dizzy, Phil Woods, Sun Ra, Elvin Jones, Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, Roy Haynes, Joe Lovano, Hampton Hawes, Ira Sullivan, Louis Bellson, Marian McPartland, Willie Pickens, Art Ensemble of Chicago, John Jenkins, Johnny Griffin, Roy Hargrove, Ahmad Jamal, Joey DeFrancesco, Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor... there must be literally thousands of names.

Anyway, at 93 Joe needs our help to cover expensive personal care. If you can't make the concert but would like to help, there's a Gofundme here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jazz-cares-for-joe

I spent 4 years in the midwest in he early 2000s and the Jazz Showcase was haven from the ridiculousness work and loneliness then.
Fond memories.
Good quality of life and health to Mr Segal.
