Ok I am a woodwind player but really flute is my specialty , so I picked up the alto about
December and started to do ok , Now I purchased a really decent Tenor sax and the weird thing is I am playing the Alto much better now and even my flutes. But the Tenor sounds awful and the low notes are hard to come . I have a Jody Jazz 6 and using a number 2 vandoren reed. My girl said to give up on the tenor buts its only been 4 days
lol !

I wouldn't quite give up yet after four days. I'm curious to know what your "decent tenor" is. I'm coming from the opposite end, having played tenor for many years but only picked up an alto about a year ago (I played alto for a while but so long ago it hardly counts). It took me quite a while to feel comfortable with the alto and get decent tone up and down. Playing the alto has clearly made me a better tenor player and has really developed my embouchure in a very positive way; stronger, better control, and much more comfortable in the higher registers. Be patient with yourself and just keep practicing. And I would ALWAYS recommend a good teacher to provide support and guidance along the way to a greater mastery of your instrument. Good luck and have fun!

You probably have leaks.....if you do then you will struggle with low notes until they are fixes.

Take more mouthpiece in your mouth and put more air through the horn. Phil Barone

and-coming from flute and alto remember that the tenor requires a looser, more relaxed embouchure. (get harder reeds too,#2 reeds will make any horn sound terrible)

It's interesting-many people comment that trying a different sax voice for awhile makes them better on what they originally or usually play (tenor for alto players, alto for tenor players).

yeah! try a harder reed, that seems a little soft for your mouthpiece.
Just blow more... Also 4 days is very few time. When i was playing alto one day i took my tenor (before i played tenor for 2 years then i drop it) and it felt so big for me...so if you never played tenor you're feeling the same or worse....lol also you will get used too... know i almost only play tenor, and the alto feels so small.........

Do you have a leak light? It may have been thrown around during transit by the UPS gorillas. I had problems with the tenor at first also. It took a good 6 months to get used to it. It was hard for me to grasp the concept of more air while at the same time a looser embouchure. My regular m/p is a Brilhart 5 with either La Voz med hard or Rico 3 reeds.
