I thought the rubber band version sounded better. I still prefer the good ol' two screw ligature because it does the job just fine. It holds the reed in place and is easy to use. The best piece of equipment I ever bought was one of these:

With this I can practice for hours and not ever bother anyone. Yeah, it was expensive but worth every penny. It also makes a great recording studio besides being a practice room. It also allows me to concentrate better because it eliminates distractions. There's nothing quite like being able to woodshed to improve your playing.

For all the GAS-ers out there --

I just saw this brand new post by Jeff Jeff Schneider on YouTube:

The actual Francois Louis vs rubber band comparison starts at starts at 1:30.

I couldn't detect a difference -- but my ears are 75 years old.
Ligatures don't make any difference, it's a myth. I want to see someone tell the difference between ligatures blindfolded. I'll pay anyone a hundred bucks. Phil Barone

I'd add the caveat that the ligature fits well. Ligatures make ALL THE DIFFERENCE if it doesn't do it's job. No good if the reed keeps wandering.

I thought the rubber band sounded far better.
I believe it was a vintage rubber band because those must sound better because the old guys used to use those.

I have used black o-rings from Ace Hardware - $0.50 and I’m good to go. Work quite well! Putting them on, on the other hand, leaves a bit to be desired.
