Yeah - he's a fantastic player. I've watched many of his videos which convinced me to buy his "Unlock The Jazz Flute" book which I ended up very disappointed with for nearly $40.

Yeah , hes a great player. I bought his book also. Just a bunch of transcribed soloing. Not much of the way he learning to play that way, just solos. K

Good to know about the book, thanks. I'm kind of done with books for the moment, wanting to focus on the ears.

As an aside (i.e., hijacking my own post), I only recently discovered that the Amazing Slow Downer App works with streaming services (Spotify, Apple) and YouTube videos. It's, well, amazing. I'd been using Anytune Pro, which is great in so many ways, but can't work with those sources.

Back to Sarpay: he and Elena Pinderhughes are my favorite currently playing flutists. Is there anyone else I should be checking out?

Elena is great - I've watched that video of her as a teenager singing Sweet Georgia Brown and then playing that crazy bebop flute solo before finishing the tune - insane!

There isn't a lot of flute involved but I've been watching some of the Andrea Motis and Joan Chamorro videos - some really talented young players in many of those videos.

A compilation of licks is great but telling a story from start to finish can be a goal as well.
Meaningful composition on the hoof makes Amadeus and other Angels smile.

A funny thing I notice about him is his limited use of vibrato. Beautiful sound. Miyazawa flute Guy. I love the quality of the builds. Yes I know this thread is 7 months old. 😎
