Is this “worth“ refacing? I’d appreciate some expert opinion. Owned for about 30 years, and really haven’t played it much. It plays “stuffy” and not very reed friendly. I really have to search for a playable reed. Curious about appx cost. Also looking for recommendations on who does this type of work. I’ve heard these are great playing pieces, just think this one needs to be cleaned up/opened up a bit. Thanks!

If it were just a reface you'd probably be looking at around $75-$100. I've dabbled in refacing but am no expert so TIFWIW - to me it looks like as you work on the tip of that piece the gap caused by that chip is going to get bigger which means that's probably going to need to be addressed as well. Not sure the piece is worth all that effort.

I'd contact Mojo (Keith Bradbury) http://www.mojomouthpiecework.com/ServicesRates/tabid/57/Default.aspx and see what he has to say. He does repair work like this as well as refacing.

Very often refacing a vintage piece will take off some value but in this case, it will add. A reface will clean the chip and what looks like dog bites. You will have a piece similar to a Slant signature with plenty of projection in a modern tip opening.

You should get it fixed but try to not get it opened too much. Just enough to get the tip straightened out.
If you think it’s stuffy now, you’ll see how stuffy these vintage mouthpieces can get when you past a 6 or so.
