yea i'm off saxes a bit but need a little advise I have a nacf hf myer 8 key flute that the hinge pins are not threaded and a little advice on removal without damage.Thanks in advance Glen

think he is talking about unthreaded pivot rods (which are not tapered), rather than "knock pins".

Tap them out gently with a punch. It often has to be in the right direction, because the end of the rod may be slightly squashed, in the manner of a needle spring, so that it jams in the post.

If they are obstinate, then offer some support to the post furthest from the punch, ie a "dolly" - a solid mass of metal - so that the post is not loosened in the timber.

After they are knocked out a little, pull/twist them out with smooth-jawed pliers.

Note that these rods bend easily, and the pivots often bind slightly, so this may need attention.
