Hey everyone, here's the first video of the brand new 10mfan ALTO MADNESS mouthpiece! This is in tribute to Richie Cole, who I had the pleasure of learning from and performing with a bunch. Here's "Harold's House of Jazz" - enjoy! Oh...there are 2 more videos that will be posted in the next 2 days :)

LOVE IT!!!!

Thank you so much, Dave.
I am so glad you are digging the piece. You wanted warmer and fuller, and you got it.
Which size Select Jazz reed are you using on the 5 tip?

You sound great---thank you!!!

How does this mouthpiece compare to a Meyer?
It seems to have the fullness and warmth of a Meyer (which is why I've been playing my same one for so long) but also doesn't get thin in the upper register like the Meyer. My biggest gripe with my Meyer is that sometimes the sound gets hollow, especially up top. This Alto Madness seems to stay consistent up there, and I feel the notes pop out really easily.

That piece sounds great Dave. I dig what you get on it and I'm familiar with your other setup.

What do you find the difference to be with the filed and unfiled reeds, for players here who haven't tried both cuts....
Honestly here's my very very very anecdotal and non-scientific comparison:

I didn't like the way I sounded on the unfileds, and I tried a bunch. It was just a weird sound for me - maybe stuffy? Uncontrolled? Not focused? I honestly don't know, but I know that I didn't like them and it was a noticeable difference between them and the filed reeds. Filed all the way for me!

it also sounds bigger/broader, especially in the lower register; that's what stands out to me the most Dave. Fantastic!!

Killing as always, Dave.

I really, really like what this mouthpiece does with your sound. You still have the warm sound but there is significantly more presence; and I don't mean that in a brighter/aggressive way, I mean that the sound feels much more resonant and impactful while still having that wonderful warmth and complexity I associate with your sound. I feel like I HEAR you more on this piece than on your meyer. In addition I feel like the piece balances your ranges more evenly; not as big a difference when you go up top and the lower register still resonates the same as the middle and upper register.

Love your creativity on this and focus on the time; you're always an inspiration!

Fantastic! You're always spectacular, but I can feel the respect and tribute for Richie Cole. Inspirational to say the least, thank you for putting out quality material and thank Mark for putting out quality products!
