So after about a 1yr bout of GAS, I have finally found alto and tenor combos that really are killer. Here are the old setups:

Tenor: Selmer Mark VI, 223xxx relaq, JJ DVNY 8*, RJS reeds
Alto: Selmer Mark VI 183xxx relaq, Selmer Super Session E, Gonzalez reeds

And the new ones:

Tenor: Barone Vintage, Barone Hollywood 7*, Gonzalez 2.25
Alto: Selmer Mark VI 183xxx relaq, Theo Wanne Amma 7, Gonzalez 2.5

I was looking for something a little more aggressive on both horns, and I think
I hit it just right. Finally I don't feel the need to change anything about my setups anymore, and it is a great feeling. Now back to the woodshed....

Good for you! Just don't switch horns, or the quest will start all over again.

Well the past year has been the most recent one. I'm surprised nobody has said "ZOMG YOU TRADED THE VI FOR TAIWANESE JUNK *** AHHHH". Looks like the forum is growing up :)

Barones are so good they earned their brand thread on the main page. I think that speaks for itself. ;)

But it's always good to love a setup, I hope it holds up! God knows I'm one to talk...

Look for a good reed???
God that is so true. I spent half an hour last night messing around between V16, la voz and blue box trying to find something I could play.

223xxx is the last MVI (year 73).
from http://www.saxpics.com/?v=ser&manID=18
Although, as the chart below illustrates, the Mark VI was produced until (roughly) serial #378000, this applies only to the Sopranino model. The Soprano, Baritone and Bass Mark VI saxophones were produced until serial #365000 in 1984, and Alto and Tenor Mark VI production ended (approximately) in 1975 at serial #239,595.
