Got to see him a few times, once it was actually a lecture-performance at my college (a visual arts college at that).

He seemed like a nice guy, doing Q&A with the audience, down to earth.

Great player too. RIP.

Have seen him a few times here in The Netherlands at the North Sea Jazz festival, were he was a regular guests.

Remember a very nice solo performance of him on an old record I have from a Charlie Parker memorial concert recorded in the 50's.
