Hi. I've a question about this clarinet I picked up at the local Thrift Store. F.E. Olds and Son Los Angeles Calif
My repair guy suggested that the clarinets were farmed out to other makers, possibly European, seeing the Olds was mainly a brass maker.
Is this the case, do you think?
BTW, the clar. is a student model, I would opine, ebonite, and works quite well, with decent sound.

I think your repair tech is right. Olds made brass, bought and re-badged woodwinds from other makers, Buffet for sure (Olds Opera model clarinets and saxes), and certainly others.
If you picked up something that plays well, congratulations!
