Our very own Euge Groove's (aka Steve Grove and "Woody Reed" on SOTW) new disc, "S7VEN LARGE" just hit the airwaves this past week (heard the title track on KJLU out of Jefferson City, MO, Friday morning--complete with an intro announcing it as the title track from the new album of the same name by their jazz DJ extraordinaire, Dan "the Hitman" Turner) and will be in stores starting May 17th, 2011.

You can listen to sound samples on Steve's (Euge's) site:

More samples here:

Another awesome effort from a great, soulful composer and player that is sure to top the Contemporary Jazz charts....

I just discovered the full version of the title track--S7VEN LARGE--on Euge's Youtube account:

Plus the video features some nice pics of Steve from a recent photoshoot promoting the album.

What a SMOOOOOOOTH (7 O's) tune to put you into a good mood on this fine Sunday (Mother's Day) morning.

Enjoy!

Good stuff. Reminds me of the things that Sanborn was doing a few years ago, only on tenor.

I didn't mind the music but it feels awkward for me to watch 5:27 of still shots of one guy.
Steve-It's....in a word....MARKETING. Same as sneakers or a car. Now- here's the funny part. READY???????? For Euge Groove to get the rooms filled/ CDs sold 24-7 EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR...This kinda marketing plan _WILL_take place.

So often ( I'm telling you something I'm sure you know-LOL :)) but the vast amount of folks who are listening to things ~LISTEN WITH THEIR EYES~ and a huge part of the "smooth" crowd is like that. Some might call it advertising hype? NOT ME. I say they are saving Euge Grooves career. He's at a point ( He used to be Steve Grove- when he played with Tower Of Power & Jeff Lorber etc etc ) where he is moving forward. And the music is great-and his musicianship stellar. But the marketable part of the _MACHINE_that is driving this stuff for these musicians is in direct competition with Lady Gaga, Larry The Cable Guy, Brittany Spears want-to-b's or Andrew Dice Clays 9th come back! LOL.

I myself, think Groove plays his [email protected]@ off. As I said- MARKETING. It could work and for his sake I hope the heck it does. It seems, since he did,, TINA TURNERS TOURS HE HAD A UPSWING OF ATTENTION AND GIGS.

MARKETING. That's all. I could tell you some juicy story's I know about guys in a bigger spot that Euge ....that play sax that's management team demanded 50k to even use their picture in an AD for a product they endorse! < SURVIVAL OF THE ... fill in the blank ) ANYHOW- you get my drift.

PS- BIZ WISE ; check this guys ; There's a local center out my way. I know a bunch of people that are staff. Long story short- They were having great acts like Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart and even a Cirque De Soul. Guess what???
LARRY THE CABLE GUY...came in and wiped out the entire sales on everyone!!! Damn guy sold the house out in the 2ed hour tickets went on sale. When he played here-he had all the innerstate connections jammed on the exits into the city with fans!!!
How can anyone compete with that? But it also sais a lot!!!! :banghead::dontknow:

Think about it. LOL. :soapbox:

I would fill in the bank with tenacious. Which really takes a lot of strength at times. I've been beat down so many times in my career have up counting. The business has changed in so many ways (we are having a business discussion here I think). My analogy is that the pie has turned into a McDonalds Apple Turnover. Yo have to figure out how to hold onto as much of the pie as possible. Cut it into fewer slices. There is no marketing machine anymore. There are very few print publications left. The internet is so scattered, it's hard to tell whats what, so you have to service everyone.

As for the post here about my new album, it wasn't from me. I know better then to do that ; > ) The youtube video is really a slide show made up of promo pics that go out to show promoters. Youtube is the easiest way to play music on a fan page in facebook. It's also become quite popular for people to put together playlists on youtube, just for the music. Not video. It also makes it easier for people to share with their friends. Thereby letting more people know about a new release. Without as much radio and virtually no retail left, social media has become even more important to the big picture.

Thanks Tim for the very kind words. I know you know what tenacity is all about! I've tried at times to have discussions on SOTW before to help shed some light on things. It seems to shut threads down pretty quick!

OK, I understand now. I thought it was like a music video but your description about getting the song on youtube makes sense. Thanks, Steve

No worries, Steve--anyone who's been around here for a while knows I'm probably you're biggest fan on here and that I started this thread out of pure appreciation. And I have chosen to respond in this unsullied thread rather than wade back into the other one where I announced your new CD, which I agree was getting kind of hostile.

But please be aware that the hostility was not directed toward you but me. From your last post you seem to have learned if you stick around here long enough you're going to lock horns with certain folks, especially if you have strong opinions on subjects. And I should have known that challenging one of the most deeply-held beliefs of the SOTW Faithful (that you need to play a baffleless Link on tenor to shape your own sound, etc.) would cause a backlash against anything and everything in my post.

Anyway, now that the mea culpas are out of the way, I wanted to congratulate you on what sounds like it will be another chart-topper. My first impression is that it sounds like a return to form so to speak to your Living Large/Born to Groove kind of material. I really enjoyed your last CD, which seemed like more of a departure with it's gospel theme, but it did take a little longer to grow on me than your others. It is quite possible that Sunday Morning may be a deeper, more personal record in that way.

But when you were talking about your recent mouthpieces in the other thread, it made me wonder what you are playing now, because your sound on the new recording seems a little more free-blowing like Born to Groove (on which I think you you're on a Guardala Studio) than on Sunday (on which I'm pretty sure you're on a Sugal Gonz). In fact, when I recently listened to tracks from Born to Groove and Sunday Morning back to back, I could definitely hear a difference in your sound, with the sound on the Sugal being perhaps a tad more resistant--kind of Link-like even LOL. But even though you basically sound like you on everything, I have to admit that I like the Born to Groove (Guardala) sound a bit more.

So are you now back on a handmade Guardala Studio? If not, what did you use on this one? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious about this since you teased us a little on the other thread when talking about your latest "mouthpiece" but not revealing what it was. :bluewink:

How about the horn for this recording? I see all the publicity shots feature the JK Shadow, but you've mentioned before that use the JK on the road and record with your 92,xxx Mark VI in the studio. Same thing for S7EVEN Large?

So with that being said, are you now back on a handmade Guardala Studio? If not, what did you use on this one? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious about this since you teased us a little on the other thread by not dropping the other shoe on this.

I'm like every sax player I suspect when it comes to equipment. Sometimes I feel like it's a wrestling match, and sometimes I feel like it's an extension of me. I did use the link style Sugal on Sunday, but it just missed something for me. Now I'm on a Custom Sugal that I got a few years ago. He did a custom baffle thing, so it's somewhere in between a SG 1 and a SG2. Very free blowing (as in it won't choke off) and very centered. The studio piece I had was much drier up top, where the Sugal has a more metallic thing. More complex in the mid range too. Just bigger all around for me. I used the VI on 4 cuts and the JK on 3. Yes, stylistically it's more in the B2G vein. All live in the studio playing though.

Sounds good, just not the type of music I'm really into. Any chance you'd make a cd sometime that is less modern Sanborn and more 80's Sanborn? More rocking and less smooth.

Tina probably wouldn't like it if he played like that. Or this;
Oh no! I tried to hip up the chords on the Private Dancer solo and take it to church a little. No way! She hated chord extensions of any kind. She would say "no minor chords", which meant simplify the chord. On a big stage, it makes it easier for singers to stay in tune when it's simple. Complex chords can just run together in the echo. She also hated my sound on my Link Style Sugal. Waaaay to dark. My head was poppin off and she said I had no energy. I went back to the D8 I had and all was good in the world. She heard all and knew exactly what she wanted. Bravo to that! A lot of singers have no clue what they want.
