As I had promised, I got my hands on a unplated Silverite Dukoff D8. I had it analyzed with a X-ray particular material appraisal gun.

HERE IT IS !

98.32% Sn (Tin)
1.68% Cu (Copper)

So, as I had thought, they are basically a tin alloy. This is a Mojo perfected Dukoff and it is much more well mannered than the ones straight out the box.
It is fuller than a standard Dukoff. It appears that the more recent Dukoffs are nickel plated. So take this FWIW.

Unfortunately, it is deemed hazardous to aim these at humans due to the X-rays. We use it at my work to satisfy customers the material we are giving them is actually what we say it is.

That's okay, sometimes I'm not sure the students are humans:D

Anyway, thanks for the analysis. Interesting.

How about pointing it at one of the "does lacquer affect sound" threads to see how much fact/baloney/BS is present?

Lacquer doesn't affect the sound unless you spray it in your eyes - we all know that!

Well, at least there's no lead. Out of curiosity, what is the composition of pewter? I always assumed that Silverite and pewter were the same material...

According to Wikipedia, pewter is 85%-99% tin and 1%-15% copper. It sounds like Silverite and pewter are the same thing.

I think it's also sometimes called "crown pewter"

What's up with those pictures of Dukoffs that show them as two-toned metal?
I think it's to make them look more attractive.

There's a whole craft for making ugly objects look prettier. In music they're called recording engineers.

In advertising they're called 'stylists'.

I worked a couple days as a grip on ads for a restaurant chains. You would not believe what food stylists do to the food to make it look 'appetizing'.
Let me put it this way, you can't eat the food after most of the stuff they do.

You would not believe what beauty contestants do to make their parts look good, either...but I digress, yet again.
