I found a leak light at Wal-Mart tonight. It's a Garrity Fun-Tastick Glo-Lite. It cost about three bucks. It's a green pen-shaped device 7" long and 1/2 " diameter. The entire length of the pen glows when you turn it on. No batteries involved, it's self-contained. It has a string lanyard that lets you lower the pen into the body of a tenor sax and shows leaks in all the pads if there are any. You can loop the lanyard on the thumbscrew at the top of the body. It was in the sporting equipment department with the flashlights.

Technology may be changing, but in general; I find such things to have rather not enough LOCALISED light. It is all too easy to miss those all-important small leaks.

Repair suppliers and technicians have tried various colors, wattages, and types of bulbs, and green is lowest on the list above red, while light (no pun) blue was favored. Cold cathode ray tube bulbs appear to have the most promise for future versions of leak lights, from what I am hearing. I'll have to see waht type of set-up Brian Russel's rig uses.

Princeton Tec Pulsar II LED Light is also handy. Remove the metal, put it on the end of a string, and your all set. There's an on/off switch that's not shown. Very light and portable. View attachment 2473
If you like that, you'll love this.

Not practical for a leaklight either, but we use these in our shop in brass instruments everyday. Amazing lights and quality built to last for decades.

I have had a similar light for years and they are absolutely indispensable when working in confined areas where you need light.

Lowest on the list above red? Huh?

It's available in red and blue, too. Green was all they had a Wal-Mart, so I tried it. It enabled me to find a tiny leak in a super 20.

How can something be lowest, but above something else?
Oo, I love riddles. Do U.S. presidents count?
I guess so. The question is: What do they count? :D

Oh, and I think there's a comma or a semicolon missing in the original statement: qreen is lowest on the list, above red, while light (...)...

Make it easy? On a scale of 1 to 5, 2 is lowest? I repeat. Huh?
Are you dudes just being difficult? While he phrased it somewhat strangely, he meant to say "Besides red, green is lowest." He could have said, just as easily, "Green is second lowest." :p

Lowest for what..... I don't know.
