Hi, I have recently seen some statement that Eddie Daniels had played Yamaha clarinets in the pre-Leblanc era. Can anybody confirm that, and if yes - what was the model designation? I've come across pro clarinet from the 70s labeled YCL-62, I assume that at the time it was their top of the range model and wonder if it can be this horn.

All the best,
Szymon Łukowski

I believe the YCL-62 (produced between 1979 and 1984) was the top of the line when it was issued. There was also a YCL-82 which came later.

I have a 1980s R13 bought from new and a YCL 62, both serviced in Howarths last year. The R13 is definitely more responsive and feels to me to be a higher level clarinet than the 62. The intonation on the 62 is a bit easier for me. The R13 has a great sound but the 62 seems IMO to have a slight edge in the throat notes.
