Strange that neither Eddie Daniels nor Joe Thomas are on the personnel list for the album but their names are on the picture used for the video

(from wiki): Mike Brecker, Lew Delgatto, George Young – saxophone

Thanks for getting to the bottom of that ..... I thought I was crazy! I’ve never heard Eddie Daniels sound like that either but I didn’t see Brecker listed when I Wiki’d the recording and I knew it wasn’t Joe Thomas. I’ve never heard Eddie Daniels do the R&B thing but I’m pretty sure there isn’t any genre of music he can’t play well!

I love Brecker’s sound on this .... 1976 so Brecker was still playing a metal Otto Link?

Do you want a prize for saying it first or was there another reason for chiming back in with no new info?:whistle:
Wow. Where did that come from? I only chimed back in as the link in my initial post with more detailed info might have been missed. I mean... you missed it, right? And had to google? Heck, I even admitted I was no expert on Brecker's sound and thought I was doing the thread a favor. You know, to keep folks from guessing further. No slight intended; at least on my part.

Sorry, I was just messing with you. I didn't catch that it was a link in the text of your comment until later. Didn't mean to come off as being mean.

I was fortunate enough to hear Eddie Daniels live at a past Sax Symposium with the Navy Commodores. And forgive me if anyone has heard this story before, but if not I'll share a gem with you at the end...

Whoever is the featured jazz artist at the Symposium gets a masterclass/lecture presentation the afternoon before the show with the Commodores. When Branford was there, he took the opportunity to just talk. Bob Sheppard interacted with the audience and those with horns in their hands. Chris Potter came out solo with his horn and let you know he the most technically proficient player in the auditorium. They all do different things. But when Eddie Daniels came out for his masterclass, he brought a combo with him from the Navy Band and simply played a fantastic set of jazz. Now along with his tenor, his clarinet came with him. I'd never heard him play either before, but inwardly groaned at the sight of the licorice stick. So he starts off on tenor, and I'm digging it... but then he plays clarinet. What a whole 'nother level. I didn't want to see him pick up the tenor again. Sorry, but that's just me being honest.

A few months afterwards, I found someone who had recorded a bit of it. Eddie Daniels on clarinet, doing Autumn Leaves:

Eddie Daniels is amazing on this album. I wis he had played more sax through his career. He is up there with Brecker and Bob Berg in that style in my mind.
Actually, from a tonal concept I think he sounds very close to Bob Mintzer. But still, his ideas are all his own. On clarinet he is in a league of his own, a master. I saw him back in the 90's when he was touring with Gary Burton, doing a Benny Goodman tribute band. Both such great players.

Now I know I've told this story before, so I'll try to make it brief. I was fortunate to grow up playing in my father's dixieland band which featured a retired Navy pro on clarinet, who is truly world class (and knows it). Just an amazing player who can also make a bass sax dance. So not long after my experience hearing Eddie live as recounted above, I broke the news to our clarinetist, without naming names, that I'd finally heard someone that puts him to shame on clarinet. He just turned away shaking his head, muttering under his breath, "Eddie Daniels..."
