There are plenty of fake books out there, but in particular I'm looking for a collection that deals with 60's hard bop jazz.Tunes composed and played by artists like Joe Henderson, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver etc. I need an Eb version. Can anyone enlighten me.

Have you tried the Realbook? I'd say like 50 percent of it or more falls into that category.

You could check the Aebersold site as well, they have a bit of everything there from what I remember

The original Real Books would fill the bill. These were compiled at the Berkeley School of music in Boston, Mass. and are packed with great bebop and hard bop tunes. But these are hard to find these days, possibly because they're illegal. Supposedly the Hal Leonard Real Books are the same as the Berkeley Real Books only legal. But I don't know this for a fact. Anyone know about the Hal Leonard books?

But recently I've seen some fakebooks going by the name Real Book that are not the Berkeley Real Books. Try to find the original Berkeley books. Anything that is published by Hal Leonard or Sher Music is not the original (though they may be worth having too). The Berkeley books seem to be getting hard to find.
It's Berklee with two E's.

Those realbooks have since been liscensed and are published through Hal Leonard I believe.

They are available even on amazon.com and the like. The Eb version still has the Blue Cover.

It would be specifically, The RealBook 6th edition

edit: fyi, I have one of the "original" realbooks I bought under the counter at a shop in Boston some years ago. The Hal Leonard version is identical, the only thing missing are the Zappa Tunes.
There's quite a bit more than Zappa tunes missing from the Hal Leonard books. I know Sun Ra tuneS are missing and there are definitely others, some of them pretty important.
Thanks for the info joelsp. Your post went up as I was editing mine.

You're right, a couple of Sun Ra tunes, and I believe some of the Steve Swallow tunes are missing as well. Of course, I do not believe that the OP will miss those, as he is looking for Hard Bop stuff.

I might add that those RealBook CD's you can get off of ebay or other online stores, have all three versions of the realbook, and I believe have most of the original stuff on them.
