I will be adding more Jazz Discovery "Easy Easy Bebop" videos to the new Easy Easy Bebop Youtube Channel. These videos will be showing improvistaion tips and ideas using some of the licks and phrases from the Easy Easy Bebop book. These tips for improvisation will be shown as they are developed using piano. This is so that all instruments can see slowly, then faster note by note how the lines are being developed step by step. It if you have the book handy you can see the notation or transposition of the main licks if necessary. These videos are mainly to "Watch, Listen and Learn" to see how the ideas are developed. Then you can use this approach on any instrument you play. I created the basic material on Saxophone and Piano and decided to use piano to demo the material in the videos. These videos are not piano lessons, they are improvisation tips and ideas for jazz beginners and intermediate musicians. In jazz it helps when Sax players have basic piano knowledge. So check it out. Have fun, Watch,Listen and Learn by sight and sound. This is to show step by step how to develop jazz improvisation skills without over thinking it. Using the targeted licks and phrases from the book you can quickly and easily find reliable musical ideas for creating longer lines(as seen in the videos). Sax players can play the material in the book and start creating connecting ideas just like in the videos. I think it's best to start with the first uploaded video then follow the uploads in order. That way you'll see the development as I upload more videos. The first videos aren't for explaining the detailed theory...they just allow you to hear the ideas as jazz language. Eventually I will explain some of the theory in the tips window. It's always a pleasure to share my ideas with the SOTW website and musical community.

I added just a little video magic to the videos to make them interesting to watch, but the main focus is the notes being played. The first video was an inspired idea to share some musical thoughts. The new videos are being made based on newly inspired musical thoughts and ideas.

I've created a video playlists so it only takes one click to watch the videos in the proper order. That way it's easier to follow the development of the series of videos. There are now 10 videos uploaded on Youtube in the Easy Easy Bebop "Jazz Is Discovery" series playlist. New viewers should start the videos from the beginning of the "Playlist" to see the development of the series. Also watch the videos from start to finish to see the note by note changes and added notes to see how the longer lines are connected and developed. These videos will be continuing with more gradual complexity. So watch the first videos to understand what method is being used. This is a Watch-Listen-Learn video series. The videos show how by just changing or adding a few notes here and there you can make simple ideas much longer and lyrical. These videos and the book are to help the beginning and intermediate jazz improviser hear the music as jazz language. Viewers who already have the book will recognize the main short licks and see how they are combined into longer licks and phrases. I suggest watching the full series to absorb the concept fully. It can help how you learn other material as well. This is because you will recognize how smaller building blocks combine into long phrases and tunes in most jazz music. I create these videos when inspiration hits me at different times of day or night, so volume, velocity and video detail does change slightly on a few videos. I upload the videos soon after I record them to keep things interesting and developing.

Thanks for sharing! I don't think I'm allowed to call myself a beginner anymore. Not with the number of hours, the years, and number of horns I've bought. But I'm still a novice (read: I still suck). And I'll always be a student. So again, thank you for sharing!

mishmellow...Thanks for your interest and reply. I'm looking forward to sharing more videos. The Author in me says "Don't give away to much of the book", but the Musician in me always says " Share with the SOTW members". Well...the musician in me won again. So stay tuned and continue watching as I share more videos.
Once again for others who might be interested, the videos are for learning the process of using short licks as building blocks and making much longer phrases. There are various levels of theory used within the licks. That's why I say beginner to intermediate. Advanced players can see, hear and understand the theory being used, but I don't want beginning or intermediate improvisers to have to over think the material. Watch the full videos and see the variety of ways the licks are being connected with chromatic approaches, enclosures, arpeggios, bebop scales, tritones, diminished parts, triplets and other things. The videos show examples of all that in use without over thinking it. That's why I use piano, so you can see that by just moving one or two nearby notes of the basic lick more possibilities are discovered. That's why the series is called "Jazz Is Discovery".
