What were the years of the Ernie Northway saxophone line available and where was distribution available to. These were B&S 2001 stencils.

I'm not sure of the exact years, but 2001 sounds close to when the Northway saxes were first offered. They were sold exclusively by Summerhays Music in Orem and Salt Lake City, Utah. Ernie was an employee at the Orem Summerhays at the time and worked with Briant Summerhays to offer B&S saxophones under his name as well as a line of sax and clarinet mouthpieces designed and hand finished by Ernie.

Ernie quit working at Summerhays around 2008 or 2009 and most if not all the remaining stock of saxes has been sold. If you need more exact dates, I can get that information from either Ernie or Mr. Summerhays for you. They were great playing saxes. Ernie would never have put his name on them if they weren't great horns.

Thanks for that info jbt. I hadn't seen that info before. The Northway mouthpieces seem to come up on ebay sometimes but the saxes rarely do. As you know, 2001 was a B&S model name, not necessarily a year.

I just looked up Mr Northway on Google and he has a website for mouthpieces. These are handmade by him and have nothing to do (as far as I can tell) with B&S.

The mouthpieces dont, but the saxes were B&S stencils.

Thanks for that bit of history on these German saxophones, I didnt know they were all comming from Summerhays. Do you know about how many were produced of these alto/tenor saxes?

The salesman I spoke with estimated that they ordered about 150 altos and 150 tenors with the Northway name engraved on them between the years 2002 and 2006. Much to my surprise they still have about 4 altos and 2 or 3 tenors still in stock. There is one alto in gold plate, and the rest are gold lacquer.

If anyone is interested in one of these horns send me a PM, and I will give the name and number of the person to contact. Since they are "old stock", they may be willing to give you a good deal on one of these great B&S saxes that are no longer being made.
