I just purchased and watched a great DVD on reed prepation and care. It's very thorough.

You can find it at http://www.theperfectreed.com/

It answers all questions on soaking, scraping, storage and using the Legere synthetic reed.

This really is worth the small outlay (get the iPod version, which will run on Quicktime, is very reasonably priced, and downloads more quickly than the vendor suggests). Having followed the video, I went through some of my reeds, using the techniques: some very average or problematic, but just playable, reeds turned out to be good players, thus saving twice the price of the video in a couple of hours. My problems with soprano reeds being very inconsistent seem largely over: the techniques seem to stabilise them and make them all more easy blowing and easier to control. It's all very simple and clear, and it works.
