So, I'm still kind of tweaking what kind of setup to go with on my soprano. I've been finding that I like the JJ DV 7* the best. However, doing a few recordings I find that it is a tad too bright. I've been using V16 exclusively on it. I found that I had an unopened box of Rico Royal 2-1/2's so I tried one. As luck would have it, the first reed played really nice. The excessive brightness on the high notes toned way down. I'm thinking now that maybe V16's are not the right choice for a metal piece on Soprano.

I was using Alexander Superials, which were responsive but a bit bright. Rico Jazz Selects are perfect: enough punch, along with much easier access to the high notes.

Ever try plain ol' Ricos? Get a box of 25. It's a grab bag, or sure, but I bet you'll find some real winners. I always do.
