Anyone know of another ligature that works well on the JodyJazz DV? It comes with a Rovner and I wondered if there was an EDII lig that fits it or maybe a metal ligature.

The EDII is a very good lig for the DV. I believe the small/metal alto or soprano size will fit. Make sure you order the right one though! I think Jody Jazz can help you choose the right model. They took a poll by email asking everyone who bought a DV what type of lig they were using so they must have the results of that somewhere.

Rovner ligature placement

I know the answer from a lot of people will be just play with it and see what works for you, however I'd like to know if anyone has any strong opinions on what works best. Specifically is the Rovner ligature placed best centered on the uncut reed or in another position? Is it best to have the least possible pressure on the reed by leaving it loose or does tightening it a bit help (or hurt) for darkening the tone or for hitting altissimo notes? What are the opinions regarding cutting off the excess wood of the unfinished end to eliminate overhang off the reed table?

I play a Selmer SA 80 series I silverplate tenor with a JodyJazz ESP 7 (.100) and ZZ 2.5 reeds (and a variety of others) or more recently Rico Select 2 medium or a fibrecell medium soft. I strive to obtain the darkest tone possible, although admittedly I might do better in that regard with a funky old Zephyr with corroded lacquer than my shiny Selmer.

Try a Fortissimo... they work great with the DV (and every other MPC I've tried it with) http://www.kesslermusic.com/ff/ligature/tensionring.html
From the looks of the fortissimo description, the three choices of metal are similar to the 3 choices for the Van Doren V16. What has been your experience with the Jody DV and 16 vs. Jody DV fortissimo? Very similar or greater response and vibrations among both choices?

Today, I stopped by the music store and was eager to purchase the last fortissimo lig in stock when the sales guy insist I try and fit it on my jody jazz dv mpc. It took me about 7 minutes to put it together. The mpc setup was slack . It was likely to slip at any moment not to mention the fact that I did not like the crude looking appearance. It stayed in the store!
