Piet Noordijk (79) passed away yesterday. He was the best dutch alto player imho. He was highly influenced by Charlie Parker. He played together with Nina Simone, Toots Thielemans and Dexter Gordon.

.. and he played with Misha and Han in a great quartet. A true hero, this guy. I've got this record that has the Mengelberg 4tet playing with Gary Peacock and Piet is in Dolphy territory. Wonderful. What a loss.

Piet Noordijk was one the first great Dutch saxophonists and was especially known for his great drive and piercing sound. Have seen lots of great performances of him, his drive is an example for every player.

Not only a great bopper, but also a real swinger. If the style Texas Alto's would exist Piet would be a master of that style! Check this clip of 1999:
