My last 2 saxes purchased have plated finish. My Keilwerth SX-90 tenor has Black nickel and my Rampone Sopranino has 24K gold plate. I went w/ these finishes as I was tired of lacquer(acid bleed etc and wanted something differant). How does plating hold up in the long run??And can I assume acid bleed will be nonexistant???

Well, I'm playing on a 90 year old nickel plated bari that has almost NO plate wear whatsoever. It would be safe to assume that the Keilwerth would last as long, and I think the Rampone will last at least that long, too.

Ianhart,That's good to know!!!!Most of my lacquered saxes have held up well. My Super Action 80 series I and Sekmer USA alto and tenor are over 20 years old and have a least 95% lacquer. My daughter's Yani SC-991` and A-901 both have subtle acid bleed and are only a few years old. My other daughter's Keilwerth lacquered tenor(I really like the gold lacquer on it) was made in 2000 and has minor acid bleed as well.

And while I love the colored lacquered finishes.White and black come to mind,I never got a colored lacqured sax for fear that sax would look shabby when the lacquer would wear in certain spots. I was really tempted by that white S-80II alto quinn the eskimo sold on E bay though.

Was the acid bleed on the Yani's evident from the start, or did it show up over time. When I used to have a Yani sopranino the minor acid bleed was there when I got it. It was very minor.......I currently have an SC992 on trial and am liking it...no acid bleed evident......
