This may sound dumb, but I was just wondering what's the difference. I love the sound of all the different saxophones, but have only played the alto. How different is the fingering for the tenor and soprano compared to the alto? Is it very different to try to play the others?

All saxophones finger the same way. The difference is the tone they emit with the various fingerings (the concept of transposing saxophones - and the melody saxophones . . . e.g., Bb, Eb, and C saxophones, although there is also the rare F saxophone).

So, finger a middle C on any saxophone (L2) and a Bb saxophone sounds a piano's Bb while an Eb saxophone sounds an Eb (a C-Melody tenor or soprano will sound a piano's C).

The OTHER difference is the size, obviously. Playing a sopranino is a lot different than a baritone although they are in the same key (Eb). DAVE

There is no difference in the fingerings on the saxophone. They are all the same.

Try something other than alto just to see what it can be like. I did that in 7th grade and have been playing tenor instead of alto ever since.
