hi

I got this mpc. from the eBay today, it looks ugly but plays great. I assume that D models are "standard" and most popular, but this M chamber is also bright, focused and punchy like D models, but feels and plays better throughout entire range, especially bottom end of the horn, but altissimo is also easy and safe.
It is definitely wrongly numbered, as the tip fells more like 8 or even a bit less and it also has famous "wart", although less pronounced than D models. Also beak has asymmetrical cut.
This is probably from the seventies/eighties?

The 'M' was my choice too - the most powerful mouthpiece I ever played. Yours has a little bumpiness on the tip that would be easy to remove and it might play even better. Just be careful with it - its pewter and very fragile.

Hey I’m glad that you found a great player. Can I ask you a question though as I’m new to the Dukoff family. I just bought my first one couple months back from I think reverb. However mine looks almost like it’s made out of a different material. Not being one that knows anything about metals, I can’t tell you What material it looks to be, however I can tell you it does not look anything like your typical dirty oxidized silverite or/pewter whatever you wanna call it dukoff. My original thought was that perhaps it was nickel plated however it still feels quite soft like I can almost scratched it with my finger nail. But as I alluded to earlier, it just looks nothing like the other ones that I’ve seen. Perhaps I’ll post pictures when I get home today. I figured Perhaps the people over at reverb Might have just polished it up a bit to make it look newer however after playing it now for about four months and never cleaning it I would’ve expected it to start to oxidizing look like your typical silverite ugly piece that we all know and yet still love. Some thing about this is making me wonder if perhaps I got screwed over and maybe was sold a fake. Anyways just would like to hear anyone’s thoughts on that. And if I may ask another question pertaining to the original poster, what exactly is this wart thing That people talk about? Can you tell me where it’s located on your mouthpiece and whether it’s there on purpose or if it’s a manufacturing defect or anything else that you could tell me would be great because I don’t think I have any warts on mine LOL.
Anyways thanks everyone. And I’m so happy to hear that you found a new love with your new Dukoff

I have a M7 version that I bought in the '80s (I can't recall when I purchased it, but probably between '82-'86). Awesome mouthpiece - I think mine plays true to a 7 tip opening (at least when I compare to my other MPs). The top of mine is also slightly asymmetrical, but it doesn't seem to be as pronounced as your - I never noticed it until you pointed that out. I wonder if that was a result of the manufacturing process, rather than by design.

What do you mean by famous "wart" - not sure I have heard that reference before.

this is "wart" marked on the picture, and is it there on purpose or as a manufacturing defect I have no idea

I couldn't quite make it out from your picture, but I see what you are talking about. Here is a picture of mine which is slightly more clear. I don't know the reason, but suspect it is manufacturing-related. To me, it looks like the refined finish work from the tip down just stops there. I'm sure that if there is a specific design rationale, a "Dukoff expert" will interject with further thoughts.

Regardless....it is a great MP.

Best mouthpiece I ever had was a Dukoff 7M. Back in the late 70's I went mouthpiece shopping in NYC-
this is in the days of actual music stores- and I must have tried out around 25 different Dukoffs and Bergs.
Wound up with the Dukoff 7M- great piece that I played for years until I dropped it on a concrete floor!
