The criteria by which I judge a ligature is by how well it seals the reed on the table, how well it holds it's place on the mouthpiece while tuning and on how easy and stable the bottom notes are while subtoning. I have a Rovner light which I am not thrilled with although adequate and a left over Francois Louis from when I owned a metal mouthpiece. I combined the plate with the Rovner and now I have a ligature that works as I like it to work. Hand Automotive tire Wood Collar Tire

I just used the plate holding screw that was on the FL and as I did not have a nut to lock it in place I just drilled a hole in a round piece of hard plastic threaded the screw through and it is held in place. I have 2 Rovner versas, that's where I got the idea from. FR ligatures are very nice response wise, but they don't stay put.
